Corporate and Social Responsibility - “Bringing staff together to work towards improving the lives of others” - is an integral part of our business strategy, and is delivered with an approach that involves staff at all levels from the board down. Community is one of our five business goals, as depicted in the gem temple.

We have a number of policies to guide our corporate social responsibility, as follows:

Environmental:

gem is committed to a clean, healthy environment. Amongst our activities are recycling of all possible office materials, sensor lighting,  power-efficient  'thin stations', double side printing, and a “Cycle to Work” scheme.

Ethical:

Through an ethical trading philosophy and our environmental policy statement, we are striving to ensure that what we buy, use and dispose of, is done ethically.

Employee: 

gem has invested heavily in the development of its staff. We retain good staff through strict observance of legislation which is designed to protect employees in the workplace but also through initiatives which help to create better working conditions and terms. Our policies and procedures include generous employee benefits, a Code of Conduct, an Equality and Diversity Policy, Health and Safety and Training and Coaching policies.

Community:

Each year gem chooses a local charity to support – homeless and cancer charities amongst others – last year we exceeded our target of £20,000 for McMillan Cancer Care. This year, we are supporting the ‘gis- a-hug’ foundation, which was set up last year to raise awareness of carbon monoxide poisoning after the son of one of our staff members, and his friend, were killed by a faulty heating appliance in a holiday home. We also support various other charities by attending and contributing to their fund raising events.  We provide organisational support for Young Enterprise.  We also actively support university and school work placements.
