Why work for gem?

When you come to work at gem we believe it is important that you feel valued. As a member of our staff you are offered a wide range of benefits including:
  • a complimentary bun or piece of fruit every Friday.
  • Sapphire Discount Scheme - a lifestyle-led discount scheme and rewards loyalty
  • a day off on your birthday.
  • Stakeholder pension and share option schemes.
  • Childcare vouchers.

Recognition - the ‘gemmy' awards

gem hosts an annual reward and recognition scheme – “the gemmys”. Staff nominate those who have ‘gone the extra mile’ in relation to our five core values; Customer Focus, Integrity, Excellence, Innovation and Passion. The Board select winners in seven categories and all staff are invited to an awards ceremony and results are widely publicised in our ‘gemmys’ programme.

Coaching – a helping hand

At gem we value our staff therefore coaching has become part of the business strategy at gem. We believe that good coaching and feedback has a positive impact on job satisfaction and retention and can produce more harmonious, relaxed environments, which in turn stimulates and motivates our staff to perform better.

At gem we have seen clear results that have included our staff being much more solution focused and positive in dealing with challenges. It empowers individuals to think about how to deal positively with a work-related situation rather than panic and, quite often, become stressed about it.

gem offers a bright, modern and exciting place to work and includes breaks for playing games – the Wii console is a permanent fixture!
There is also a main breakout are called ‘bar gem’ which has a range of vending machines, mobile phone recharging stations, game consoles, televisions and a pool table. This combines to make gem not only a nice place to work but also a place where there is space to relax and catch up with friends. Many of these facilities were put in place as a direct result of staff feedback and have been widely welcomed.
“A lot of people see call centres as a ‘chicken coop’ environment but gem is far from that. It is a nice place to work and we try to promote that. Some call centres are very regimented but we bring an element of self management for our agents and they appreciate that. We have one of the lowest attrition rates in the industry. We have seen people who have left for more salary, then return to us because they like the environment at gem.”
